Think aloud

About me

I’m currently a web communication advisor for a university. My job is great but I spend more time on webdesign than on communication advice. Also, I’m bothered by the lack of scientific backup to the advice we do give. Sometimes it’s outdated, sometimes not there at all, and we certainly don’t keep track of it. I want to change this, one step at a time.

My background is in print publishing. I’ve worked a publishing house for a few years, publishing a network oriented magazine. I’ve written a version of The Wordperfect bible” (I wrote it in Word). I left the vapid commercialism of the publishing world and went back to university to study psychology, working in a cybercaf√© on the side. Eventually I ended up working at Uni. I learned how to webdesign, how to program. Then I learned there was such a concept as Usability. Something combining psychology, research principles, web design and digital technology. I was intrigued.

After a year-long course on usability, I still am.
